I used to feel like I was failing one of my kids...When I tried to comfort them in moments of struggle, they pushed me away. When I validated their feelings, they responded back with loud, hurtful words. When they made a mistake, they'd blame me. Then I had a simple yet profound realization: Different kids need different things. Parenting is not a “one size fits all” approach. If you try on a pair of shoes and they don’t fit right, you grab another size. Why don’t we think of our parenting approach in the same way? So a few years ago, I went to work. I combined what I learned in my PhD program with decades of experience in private practice to develop a new approach for the most misunderstood group of kids in the world: Deeply Feeling Kids. What we’re typically told to do doesn’t work for these kids: they don’t want to talk about their feelings, they often don’t respond well to touching or direct eye contact, they don’t listen to logic or reason, and they even refuse rewards. It can feel like nothing you try is getting through..and in fact, each attempt only escalates their behavior. I know Deeply Feeling Kids. I have one of these kids. I’ve worked with so many adults in therapy who were these kids and these adults and my years of clinical experience and study have given me a clear understanding of what these kids really need. My Deeply Feeling Kids program is one of my most popular for a reason. I have so much conviction this approach will work for your DFK... because it’s worked for me and countless other families. Click the link in my bio to learn more about my DFK Program. I am holding out so much hope for you.
