Reminder on puddle jumpers and life jackets: Yes, they’re Coast Guard approved—for emergencies, rescues, boats, and accidental water contact. Not for swimming pools. Aka- not swimming on purpose. If you’re using one on purpose in a pool, you’re doing it wrong. These devices don’t teach swimming. They hurt it. Every second your child wears one, they’re moving further from becoming an actual swimmer.  Worse—they’re developing poor swim posture, becoming nonchalant about water, and more dangerous because of it. You’re actually just increasing the fear for when they finally do take it off. Getting your child “comfortable” in water isn’t about keeping them artificially upright. If your child can’t handle water on their face, that’s where you start. The right step? A baby pool. Games. Play. And consistent, gentle exposure to get them putting face in on purpose. That’s real progress. New parents, do not get trapped in this phase.  Face wet on purpose.  Steps ladders ledges. Authentic water. CALM skill building.  Not forced. This makes the body light and loose to learn to swim. But if you are in the PJ phase, we have the solution for you. Let me help you, meet your child where they are at, and start moving in the right direction.
