Brian May only added the solo as an after-thought, figuring it would be too "short and weird" without any guitar. This song is one of those that feels like it was just always there, constantly being referenced and reinforced through pop-culture. I associate it heavily with the Mighty Ducks movies, which as a young fella helped make these songs feel even more relevant. I'm always still surprised when I learn it was recorded in 1977, because the production still sounds modern and crisp. Whenever I play Queen songs, I use a sixpence coin, and you can see tiny shavings of metal from it under the strings. I put these Optima gold strings on in 2021, and to my surprise they're still going well 4 years later (aside from some discolouring from the coin).
