🚨 JUST RESCUED: DOG WITH EMBEDDED COLLAR LIVING IN A SWAMP NEAR AMAZON FACILITY FOR 4+ MONTHS 🚨 This is one of the most challenging and dramatic rescues we’ve ever completed. Many of you have reached out about this girl—a dog spotted living near the old campground by 8 Mile and the Amazon facility. For four long months, she survived in a swamp, hiding in the tall marsh grass, completely emaciated and terrified and injured. When we first heard about her, it was from a former foster who tried tirelessly for three weeks to gain her trust. But as temperatures dropped, we knew we had to step in and help. When we first started trying to help we saw that her collar had grown into her neck and it was so tight that it was now embedded, cutting into the skin. Time was of the essence, and we were very concerned- as each time we returned- we saw her head getting more swollen. We tried to approach with a leash, she bolted, disappearing into the swamp near the Amazon facility. And because of the swampy area she was staying in our normal live traps were not an option. The Rescue Plan Pivoting to a new plan - we worked with our vet to obtain sedatives and even planned to use a drone to track her, hoping to secure her once she fell asleep. But just as we arrived on scene, she was standing on the porch of one of the old campground houses. We knew this was our moment. We moved carefully, blocking her escape routes, and managed to corner her on the porch. She fought hard, panicking and trying to flee, but we refused to give up. Once she was in the car, safe and warm, everything changed. Despite the unimaginable pain she was in, she wagged her tail and gave us all the love she had. Her Condition Her neck wound was worse than we thought when we were able to get a closer look. We knew that she must be in serious pain and suffering from infection so we rushed her to the emergency room for surgery to remove the collar that was fully embedded into her neck. She is severely underweight, about 10-12 months old, and has tested positive for Lyme disease. She is stable, and her wounds have been cleaned. She will be receiving daily bandage changes until her wound has been cleared of infection. We’ve named her Marsha, and this brave, sweet girl now has a chance to heal and thrive—but we need your help to make it happen. How You Can Help Marsha This rescue was costly, and her medical care is far from over. Please donate to help fund her surgery and recovery. • Or by calling Wilson's Vet directly and donating to our account (#323332) : (586) 752-6217 Marsha Needs a Foster! We urgently need a foster for Marsha so she can recover in a safe, loving home.
