@mouseabolition: Reply to @ambiguously_brown I almost wrote a paper on this but I didn’t simply bc I didn’t want to watch the movie a second time.

Salty Nicole Senior (She/They) :
It's explicit catholic propaganda. Earlier in the film they reference how Regan and her mom don't go to church, and that ”lack of faith” caused this.

I agree! The parts of the movie I remember the most are solely involving Reagan and Chris. Their story was far more interesting!

it’s interesting bc the author of the book based it on a true story of a young boy who has been possessed!

I read the book because I wanted to know more about the mother and daughter characters, but even the book dealt more with the priest’s side.

for a little context, the book is about the younger priest and his struggle with his own faith. it's harder to get that without the inner monologue

honestly my criteria for horror films is: 1. Does it have cheese/camp 2. Do we got a prince of horror or Jeffrey Combs in there??? 3. Extra Gothic???

we need more feminist/inclusive horror. (I say, acknowledging my fav horror films are problematic ( Vincent Price anything but ESPECIALLY The Tingler)

so I'm not a horror movie person at all. But I really liked The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Any thoughts on that movie, or comparisons to The Exorcist?

I thoroughly enjoyed the exorcist but I agree with what you say and I never understood why it was considered horror. I didn’t find it scary.

Also the history of horror directors abusing actors to get “more realistic performances” is incredibly concerning (obviously not every director does

Nah the movie is about faith. It’s not about the women’s suffering. I understand that desire but that’s not at all what the source material was.

Devil's Doorway is good horror film involving exorcists and it addresses the abuse in the Catholic Church
