I’m an entrepreneur. I took a vacation. The guilt came too. Even on the beach, my brain kept circling the to‑do list: unanswered emails, upcoming deadlines, the constant hum of responsibility. It’s hard to rest when you feel like your business depends on you. And honestly? That’s the part of entrepreneurship no one puts on Instagram. But I’m working on understand that stepping away doesn’t mean I’m less committed, it’s how I keep showing up. Rest isn’t indulgent, it’s necessary. If I’m not building systems that stand in my absence, then I’m not doing a good job. That guilt comes with the territory. The work rarely pauses. And when you care deeply about what you’re building, it’s easy to carry the belief that stepping away is somehow neglecting it. But here’s the shift I’m trying to make: rest isn’t a liability in entrepreneurship, it’s an asset. Clarity, creativity, problem-solving; none of those thrive in burnout. Taking time away isn’t proof I’m less committed. It’s part of how I make sure my commitment is sustainable. The business will always need me. But it needs me rested, sharp, and ready to make big moves. Here’s what I’m realizing: if the systems you’re building don’t allow you to step away, it’s time to change them. The work you’re doing should also work for you and for the life you want to live. The business didn’t fall apart while I was gone. What did change was me: I returned with more clarity, more creativity, and more capacity to lead well — and excited about my next adventure, whether in work or play. I’d love to hear from you: how have you built systems that support both your work and your life? #EntrepreneurLife #LeadershipGrowth #EntrepreneurJourney #FemaleFounded #Entrepreneur #SmallBusiness #BurnoutCulture #VacationGuilt #WorkLifeBalance
