I turn my trimmer sideways and go with the height of the fence and then trim on the ground. Doesn’t take up near as much line

I keep rpm really low and let it work itself along the fence. I also do the neighbors side cause he is older and can't move around well.

get a scythe. you can be extremely precise about where your cut starts. perfect for this issue.

Walk backwards against the fence and the line will not be used as much.
