How to visit the least visited country in Southeast Asia ⬇️ Timor-Leste sees only around 40,000 visitors a year and many people refrain from visiting due to the lack of information about the country out there. I think it’s actually a quite underrated country, if you know how to travel there and which spots to visit. 🚐 There are only two international flight connections but there are quite expensive. Instead, I took a domestic flight in Indonesia from Bali to Kupang, West Timor and then took a bus to East Timor’s capital. 🤿Don’t stay in Dili for too long, instead take a ferry to Atauro island, where scientists discovered the most biodiverse waters in the entire planet! If you want to see the world’s largest whale migration, you need to come in October and book your spots in the dive resort in advance! 🛖 For fascinating culture, head to the small mountaneous village of Maubisse. If you are a bit lucky, you will encounter local celebrations & festivities. I hired a private guide there to drive me around the countryside and we discovered a fascinsting waterfall, not visited by any other people on that day. 💵 Official currency in Timor-Leste is the $USD and prices are not as cheap as other Southeast Asian countries but you can still find local eateries with food options for 0.50$ - 1$ foods.
