Mom made me my favorite soup, miyeokguk for my bday breakfast last week. Every Korean household has their own variation of miyeokguk. Even my version and mom’s version is slightly different. Mom is a purist. Pure and clean with just high quality meat and seaweed. We use Costco skirt cut and it’s so good and tender. The origin theory is our ancesters saw whales eating seaweed after giving birth and recover fast so they started eating seaweed soup as a post birth remedy. Seaweed is indeed very rich in mineral and iodine which helps hormone regulation after giving birth. Overall it's a very healthy and good for you but don't eat excessivly as iodine can mess with your hormone level. #seaweed #koreanfood #kdrama #healthyrecipes

We kept our New Year’s Day brunch simple since half the family was just coming out of sickness. Mom and dad had lower energy than usual but they are almost back to normal now thankfully. We had what all Koreans eat on New Year’s Day which is tteokguk (Rice Cake Soup) and fried up some dumplings. Took mom and dad to Pierozek, Brooklyn for some polish delights. (Note: They have tried kielbasa (Polish sausage) but haven’t tried anything else). We tried 6 different types of pierogis (1. potato & cheese, 2. pork, 3. potato, cheese, jalapeños topped with bacon, 4. potatoes, eggs, dill and scallions topped with bacon 5. Sauerkraut & mushroom, 6. Irish cedar, bacon, potato and chives). Mom and dad liked pork ones the best. We also tried Kielbasa, Meat Croquette and Red Borscht (beet soup). Mom liked croquette the best. Dad really liked beet soup.
