When I purl this way my stitches gets twisted. I can only solve it by using the back loop while purling. What is it that I’m doing wrong?

As someone who has just started knitting, I thought you purled at the front of the stitch (the needle being at front), does it matter if the needle is at the back or front? : )

I always put the yarn BEFORE the needle for purling, it’s even faster! I don’t get it why no one does that, it’s so much less complicated! :)
