This is incorrect. They are required to work to pass any sort of fire inspection, if required.

They DO work, close is just usually disabled in normal operation. In fire mode, or independent service however...

I’m pretty sure the buttons are for when the elevators are put into emergency mode for firefighters. They can control the cars doors for fires

Well. Nobody told Otis about the doors when they installed the elevators in my building. The building is only a few years old & these buttons work.

This isn’t true at all. I go up and down an elevator with a working close door button at work. The dings dont change either.

also, some elevators have a "hold door" function that'll keep the doors open, so the "close" button will end the hold.

I used to work at a hospital of all places and the Door Close definitely worked. I used it EVERY day haha. I’d hop on, press it and go up!

Also the door open button is for when firefighters put it in manual mode with the key. It keeps the door open on the floor we r on.

actually I've noticed it does work but only after that set amount of time. but if you hit the door to reopen it will allow to close instantly
