planer makes parallel, not flat. jointer makes flat. jointer a face to flatten, then planer to make parallel (also flat because jointer)

Hey my friend, beautiful work! Just a little tip, the jointer is designed to flatten the face first, then the edge. Then plane the opposite face.

He's making cutting boards, not furniture. Since the wood is getting cut into strips, glued, and clamped, parallel is fine, flat is not so important.

As a joiner in Australia, I’ve been taught you need to plane before machining it down because if there’s a bow or twist in the timber, it will (1)

I thought it was jointer then planer too, but not a pro, didn’t take shop class. Don’t matter cause your method made really nice boards. Nice job!

plaining a board requires already having a flat face to send through. if you have a cup or warp in the board, it won't plane flat.

Have you thought about putting a helical head on your jointer? It’s been great for me. Great work btw 🤙🏼

This is the way our woods teacher thought us in high school. Worked for all of us. You explain it just how he did. Nice job

if you don't have a wide enough jointer to flatten the board first, you can always make a sled for your planer

Yes but if there is warping in the board and you run it through the planet it will simply just bend it flat and it will still be warped when it’s out

i have industrial equipment so I always use the jointer first. I always do 1 side and 1 face, I then use the planer.

To get S3S, joint one side to create a flat surface (on the side that is more flat), plane opposite side, then joint the edges.

if you do your research you would understand why this procedure is backwards. There are instances where your procedure could ruin a piece.
