It depends on what you got kicked out for. If you got hurt and medically discharged, that would be the only exception.

But VA defines veteran as anyone that served at least 6 months of service and got out Honorable or other conditions that’s not dishonorable.

I did basic and AIT and 3 months later got deployed and got injured in Iraq and now 100 disabled vet , out in less than a year
