We're adopting Turko!🎉 After many months of consideration, we feel so blessed to be his forever family ❤️ As many of you know, Turko had a very very rough start in life. He has by far been the hardest rescue case we've had. He was on the euthanisia list for behavioral issues due to past abuse. When I first picked him up from the shelter, he was so terrified of humans he wouldn't let me even touch him or get near his crate. With the help of an amazing vet & rescue, he was able to get his injuries taken care of & medications to help adjust. After warming up to us we soon learned he was especially terrified of men. We have rescued lots of dogs with "aggression" issues & reactivity, but none have come close to the level of behavior issues & fear towards people that Turko had. However, we committed to helping him get better no matter how long it took & knew right away he was going to be a long-term foster. We started earning his trust one day at a time, it was such a slow process but some dogs need to take their time. Day after day his behavior started to improve, he started to open up-realizing we wouldn't let anybody hurt him. After over a year of fostering him & training him, we decided with the support of the rescue it was time to start looking for his forever home. Belgian Malinois are hard dogs to find the proper homes for when they don't have past histories of abuse, but knowing how he came to us & how easily he could go back to fearing people made finding a home for him very hard. Turko did home trials with amazing families that knew about his past & loved him but for one reason or another, it was never the perfect fit for him. We love this dog so much & after much consideration about what's best for Turko we have decided to adopt him and continue giving him the best life possible & We're so excited for all the amazing adventures we will share with our Turko!
