I heard that in WW1 they’d use these in fox holes/ trenches because it wouldn’t be as bright as a lighter at night. Idk if it’s true just something.

been using one of these for years. my grandpa gave me one when I left to travel roughly 15 or 20 yrs ago. it's seen most of the USA with me and saved me many times.

lol you put lighter fluid on the rope that's in the handle. yes it lasts longer but does use fluid.
