Just a a apprentice here but doesn’t a union have a rubber gasket? If so isn’t bad idea to put dope on it?

Whenever we run threaded for steam or condensate, we use tape and anti seize on every joint. The anti seize seals, but doesn’t bake on like dope.

When you say dope the union? Do you mean the sealing surface ? Or the union threads? I’m down with sealing surface but the threads are pointless

We do the same.. exact same as your video. Except for gas, we use yellow dope no tape

carrier tinkler fitter here.. we have to insure water tight on installs, we clean threads, dope ( anaerobic dope if we have it) then tape..

I use anti seize with stainless. stainless on stainless tend to gall and anti seize helps prevent galling with stainless.

Also unions are made as a set never use a half from a different set because there’s a chance it won’t seal properly.

I've never done it or seen anyone put dope on the center connection of a union. 🤷♂️

When putting together I go 3 turns by hand then 3 turns with a wrench. Tape and dope will do the rest

you can wrap teflon tapr on a pencil if you need to apply it in tight spaces

That union should have a rubber washer on it. Just hand tight plus a quarter more. Should be good
