We had the same thing, nothing budges it. Cover it with drywall or drywall mud, or just burn the house down. The only options.

Let it dry and then cover it with drywall. They make a light weight version for ceilings.

Try using a drywall sander. If you are careful you can take just enough off and you will leave a texture like a splattered knock down.

We have a ugly popcorn ceiling with skylights. Going to try a thin layer of drywall as suggested. Will it be ok to paint the drywall or leave as is?

Popcorn is know to contain asbestos. You should be taking steps to protect yourself and your kids. Better to seal it and cover with shiplap

Have you tried using your sander? It sounds tedious but it’s probably that or a paint stripper because t I wouldn’t recommend that.

I hate our popcorn ceilings!! I'm afraid of how much work and mess it will be to remove tho. So just spray with water, scrape off then paint it?

We had to use a little paint thinner and one of those tile scrappers with a sharp blade and long handle once it started it came off but super time
