It’s an optical migraine. The first time it happened to me, it freaked me out as well. Drink a bunch of water with electrolytes and go take a nap.

The shimmering is aura; I get migraines with aura all the time. Caffeine, electrolytes, and rest help. Excedrine is a good OTC for accompanying pain

ocular migraine. I get them too. over the counter migraine medication works well. then just lay down till they pass

Dehydration does that. I lost a job once when my boss thought I was on drugs. After some water though, I was good.
