It took me decades to figure it out that my nutrition plan was terrible 😅 (so I’m telling you before it takes 10+ years) When I was a young lad, I was very overweight. In 5th grade, I was actually too heavy at my age t play on the football team… My nickname at recess was “Big Man” and I got pretty used to being the heavy kid.. (But I had a great personality 🙂) At the time, I thought it was just my genetics and that I was unlucky.. But looking back, it’s no surprise that I had struggled with my weight up until late high school… Here is what I feel I was doing wrong: ✅ I was eating calorie dense foods routinely ✅ Playing hours of video games every day (very sedentary) ✅ Lots of fast food (loved me some nacho cheese chicken chalupas from Taco Bell, and also dipping chicken nuggets into a frosty) ✅ I avoided vegetables and many fruits (low calorie dense foods) ✅ I ate in high quantities (no sense of moderation) I lost a lot of body fat in high school when I finally decided to change these habits 🙌 I focused on eating way less carbs, included more vegetables, got active daily, and added a big focus on protein 👌 At the end of the day, what I did most there was consume less calories (mainly from carbs and reducing calorie dense foods), and I saw fat loss 🥳 The plan wasn’t perfect, but it got the ball rolling. Over time I learned how to increase my (delicious) carb intake while still managing to control my calories and protein. Which helped me see results more predictably and faster 💪 We can’t always control our starting point, we don’t control our food environment, the habits of our families, and the food that comes home from the grocery store. But we can decide when we become a conscious consumer. It took me time to start reflecting on what was working and what wasn’t working, and I’m happy to say I found a system I can stick to 🍏 And 10+ years later, I’m still implementing those same habits 💪
