The master techs at my shop torque in a circle pattern. Never had any comebacks, no issues at all. Star pattern isn’t necessary most of the time

the star pattern is for older styles, the wheels are stud pilot where they center automatically regardless of torque pattern

Regardless of TQ ring, you can do this on any hubcentric vehicle as long as your apply the same tq to each ie tq stick or similar
