I worked at a portrait studio and we still use this !method lol, especially for newborns and toddlers. cropping is our friend. 😂

By 1839, the longest exposures were a min and a half, but by 1850, they were 3-8 seconds - but any movement could blur the photo!

the not smiling in photos was a cultural thing as well, they treated them like painted portraits which were suppose to be very serious
