A lady suggested to plant pepper plants closer together so the leaves touch when they are fully grown. My plants produce a lot of big peppers

I live in Texas and my peppers have stunted. They are small.I noticed I have two main stems. New Gardner so I’m assuming they have to be separated. 😅
