Who can relate 🥹? Tell me your experiences in the comments! Honestly this is something that annoys me a lot about being an English teacher. I looooove my job, I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I meet more unqualified teachers than genuinely qualified ones (I’m not talking about non-native teachers here by the way 🫶🏻). I’ve met other instagram teachers who say “I teach English but I’m not a REAL English teacher, you know?’ or I’ve met people who say ‘oh you’re a REAL English teacher! I work in politics but I wanted to travel so I’m a teacher right now’. When I say ‘I am a fully qualified teacher’, I feel like this title has lost all meaning. I studied a degree in Languages and then I got a CELTA (one of the ‘best’ qualifications in the industry, but it’s only a month and literally everyone passes), but I realised this wasn’t enough, so I went back to university and got a postgraduate certificate in Education. Now I feel like a true teacher, I feel so confident in my teaching, but amongst the sea of ‘qualified teachers’, it’s hard for students to see who is genuinely qualified and who is not!
