1. Most products that imply they are 'boosting’ your immune system are really just boosting someone’s quarterly revenue. The things that actually matter are boring: high quality sleep, nutrient-rich diet with plenty of whole foods, good hygiene/washing, make a habit of physical activity, try to reduce stress, etc. 2. Green mucus doesn’t necessarily mean "bacterial infection," nor does it mean that you need antibiotics. The green color is actually caused by your immune cells (neutrophils), not the virus/bacteria itself. In fact, very few colds benefit from the use of antibiotics. Similarly, the great majority (70-85%+) of sore throats are caused by VIRUSES and therefore will not benefit from antibiotics. If your healthcare provider seems hesitant to prescribe you antibiotics, it is probably for good reason. On the other hand, if your infection has dragged on for a long time, or if it starts getting worse after a week, or if you have a high fever or other severe symptoms, your doctor may consider antibiotics. So, I don't meant to argue that antibiotics are *never* necessary... but rather that you should speak with your healthcare provider and not infer medical advice from the caption of a video on social media, lol. 3. Your ‘mild cold’ might be someone else’s trip to the ER. For most healthy adults, viruses that cause the "common cold" are annoying but not really dangerous. However, for babies, older adults, or people with lung disease or compromised immune systems, the same virus that gives you the sniffles could put them in the hospital. Be kind to those around you by making an effort to avoid spreading illness. You never know who might have a compromised immune system. #Science #health
