@theshanellet: Emoitonal regulation is hard at any age. Here are some things/ways that have helped my children to calm down quickly! Squeeze ball: if you don’t have time to set up a sensory bin or you know your child has troubles transitioning on the go have a sensory/stress ball on hand to focus the stress on. Deep breaths: shallow breathing can keep us agitated and anxious. Slowing down our breathing can help our body physiologically calm down, which leads to a calmer mental state. Make it fun with a tool or count to ten depending on age. Call a friend: I don’t always rush when my child starts to cry or if there is non violent conflict and sometimes they will help each other calm down using gentle touches or talking it out. Meditation: If you have child that is naturally anxious.Practicing mindfulness meditation can be an effective way to manage feelings of stress and anxiety in a positive way.
