@jupiterarchive: Who Is Aphex Twin? You are almost more than certain to recognize the album art, logo, or errata that Aphex Twin, AKA Richard James, can't seem to get enough of. It's undeniable that even with no formal music training, his influence on the realm of "Techno" and other genres is immense. In 2001, The Guardian described James as "the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music." Rolling Stone described him as a "hugely influential electronic musician whose ambient washes of sound and freakishly twisted beats have gone on to inform artists of all genres." James' iconic album covers, music videos, and songs all tie back to his different faces and distorted personas. James said it began as a response to techno producers who concealed their identities as if it was some sort of law. "I did it because the thing in techno you weren't supposed to do was to be recognized and stuff. The sort of unwritten rule was that you can't put your face on the sleeve. It has to be like a circuit board or something. Therefore I put my face on the sleeve. That's why I originally did it. But then I got carried away." His odd personal life is something in and of itself, and a separate subject. James was indeed a pioneer of experimental techno who has constantly pushed the limits of what can be accomplished with electronic equipment.
