@thetmjandairwaypt: For the longest time I thought those two structures in the floor of my mouth were normal and that everyone had them. No one ever told me what they were or why they formed…fairly disappointing considering they are a sign of abnormal forces on the jaw and mouth. 🤦🏼♀️ These bony protrusions are called tori. Mine, as shown, are mandibular tori. But they can present elsewhere such as the roof of the mouth. While tori are relatively asymptomatic and do not generally need to be surgically addressed, their presence is indicative of long term bruxing (teeth grinding) and sleep disordered breathing. The pressure and force of muscles over long periods of time can influence bony growth and create these benign overgrowths in the mouth. These are little signs from your body telling you something is off! If you notice some of these boney protrusions in your own mouth, get evaluated by a myofunctional therapist! . . #t#tmjdisordert#tmjtreatmentt#tmjrelieft#tmjpainh#headachej#jawpainb#breathworka#airwayn#nasalbreathingm#mewingm#mouthbreathingO#OSAm#migrainesT#TMJDb#botoxs#sleepm#myofunctionm#myoT#TMDs#snoringp#physicaltherapyp#physiotherapyt#tampad#dentistryo#orthodonticsP#PTs#sleepdisordersmyofunctionaltherapy
