Now Tudor bricks varied quite considerably, with their colour and shape varying from batch to batch, dependant on the clay, and the workshop that made them, and so there is variation throughout the palace. But look at this diamond shape pattern, you often see this on Tudor buildings, and the technical term is diaper work. It’s created by using bricks which have been burnt and therefore blackened, and then placed in a diamond pattern. Sometimes though, the diaper work is false, a fake, for instead of using over burnt bricks, the black pattern is simply painted on.
