@theorispresent: Obroni Wawu October was INCREDIBLE! Thank you to our Kantamanto community coordinators, to our hosts @getupstandout + @callmequeenzain and thank you to every attendee, designer, thrift vendor, performer, model, dancer, stage hand, delivery person, artist, graphic designer, fire safety personnel and handymen amongst countless others that contributed to making our first Obroni Wawu October a success. Over 600 people participated, all there to celebrate Kantamanto, the largest secondhand market and reuse & up-cycling economy in the world. It was important to host this event within Kantamanto itself to bridge the gap between the 30,000 people that make up the market & carry the the financial risk of the secondhand trade, and the online thrift community who may have access to different markets than Kantamanto tailors and retailers. We are continuing to work on closing that gap via dialogue with both groups regarding solidarity within the local resale economy, supporting profit sharing schemes and via our long term plans to create physical spaces within Kantamanto that allow for increased collaboration. This was year one of many!
