Facial reconstruction of a 3,780-year-old Iranic Discovered in the Nepljuevski kurgan, located in the Southern Trans-Ural region, this individual is attributed to the Iranic Srubnaya-Alakul culture. Approximately 19 years old at the time of his death, genetic analysis suggests he had ancestry from both Srubnaya and the Catacomb culture. Pigmentation analysis showed that the man had brown eyes, light brown hair, and a medium skin tone. His hair texture was straight to slightly wavy. The young man had a large cranial length of 191 mm, a medium cranial width of 139.5 mm, and a medium cheekbone width of 135 mm. The Srubnaya culture practiced a wolf cult, a phenomenon common among Indo-European groups. Part of their male initiation rites involved the ritual sacrifice of pet dogs. Several Srubnaya-Alakul sites are scattered with canine remains, likely associated with this custom. Interestingly, the Fatyanovo culture - ancestral to Srubnaya - also yielded dog remains, found in what appear to have been cooking vessels. His Y-DNA haplogroup was Q1b, a lineage likely assimilated into the Indo-Europeans from the non–Indo-European, now-extinct Steppe Maykop/Kumsay populations - likely speakers of an extinct language family. Today, a Q1b branch related to his, is most commonly found in Georgia, particularly among the members of the Bagrationi dynasty. #phenotype #ancientdna #anthropology #skull #sintashta #indoeuropean
