phosphoric acid. Etches the sealing surface to promote adhesion. I only do it in the pan. Definitely wear gloves.

I use to use those we use acetone metal prep wipes now. It’s a hell of a lot cheaper and does a better job.

make sure the oil passage is drilled all the way through on the new pans, Ford has a issue with this on a few of em. wipes are cool though.

ford metal surface prep from way back in the day. been with ford since 02 never had a sealing problem using that stuff
