Opening your cuticles will make it easier for products to hydrate and moisturize your hair. I don't suggest using a hooded dryer, because the chance of the airflow actually evaporating the water before it gets into your strands is very high. if you don't have a heat cap, wet a hand towel with hot/warm water, ring it out, then wrap it around your hair over a plastic cap/bag.
