@dr.esme.louise: Send this to the person in your life who needs a revision lesson on pronouns 📚 Two of the main values I live by are compassion and education. Sadly, I think the recent “war on pronouns” is generated by a lack of both of those qualities when it comes to the topic. Language is constantly evolving. Even still, in the long history of the English language, this is a pretty minimal change. For instance, we have used “they / them” as a singular pronoun since the 1300s - sometimes even to connote gender neutrality. We continue to use it in our everyday life without even realising it. This recent hysteria, largely driven by clickbait media, has made a lot of people mad about an imaginary issue. It’s as illogical as being angry about nouns or nicknames. It is scary how quickly such ill-founded arguments can be spread, creating anger from a place of ignorance. But that’s okay! That’s why educators are here to set the record straight. 📚 #pronouns #theythem #LearnOnTikTok #EnglishLesson #educator

also "you" is both single and plural in english, so why would they/them be a problem 😁

In my language (Hungarian) we have the same pronoun for she and he, it's "ő". This would solve some much drama if it was like this in English too😂

Not really opposed, yet, it would be better grammatically to say "that person" rather than "they" , and to say "they is" is still quite awkward.

I’m honestly been really confused when people make that argument that it should only be used for multiple people because that’s not what I was taught

in Finnish, we don't have gendered pronouns, and that's why I prefer to go by "they". because to me it's less confusing.
