@sf_microscopy: I was trying something new today! Instead of the usual pond water organisms that I record, I wanted to try making my own crystals. My microscope is capable of polarization, an illumination technique that lights up crystalline structures due to a property called birefringence. By adding a wave plate (petri dish) in between the microscope light source and the objective, I could enhance the polarized light into an explosion of colors!
