hmm sounds to me like the over fluctuating power steering differential valves left the chat! only remedy garden hose, propane bottle, an that disc!

Set the valves and run break in oil and run it hard for 300 hrs it was never broken in properly

We’ve had 2 8.3 Cummins motors die first one put a hole in the piston due to a bad injector the second the oil pump went out and junked the motor
