As a high school math teacher… mixed numbers go away completely once they get to 9th grade. Improper fractions are fully simplified.

Math was always my best subject but they use new math in college so I had to take a refresher course and nothing makes sense

As a Math teacher, I hate when people call it New Math. It's not new, we just weren't taught that way. We were forced to learn one way.

Why do they change the math every year or every couple of years? It’s either a new strategy of how to do math that’s more complicated than before.
