Thank you. Nowadays people live all over the US. For nearly every wedding we attend now, we have to travel (flights/rooms/etc)

definitely a cultural difference here. 🇨🇦&🇺🇸 can give very cheaply. I was raised 🇨🇦🇬🇷 and was taught to cover your plate $ PLUS a gift... 1/2

so it's really not hard - most invites tell you formality of wedding /whether it's an open or cash bar /they tell if you if it's a sit down meal etc

I understand the concept of covering the cost of a plate, and I don’t think it’s a bad rule of thumb, but definitely shouldn’t be the expectation!

Pay the cost of the plate!! I’ve NEVER heard of this. Not aware of this in my culture. I’d you can’t afford a lavish wedding, don’t have one!

I had a friend who said “it’s $260 per plate” for a basic ass chicken and she was factoring in her entire wedding costs per person, not the meal😂

the cost of the plate isn't my cost - it's the venue/food/liquor it's what I feel it cost to have me as a guest - I don't factor in my outfit etc
