It feels like only yesterday i wrote a tribute to Anas Al Sharif, and here i am again writing one for Saleh Al-Jafarawi. Saleh was on the front lines for 2 entire years, multiple times there was a target to his name and his accounts were permanently banned. But he kept going, again and again so that his people and country were heard. Saleh had a beautiful soul, he was always with the children, praying, playing, singing, just giving them hope in a world filled with misery. He tended to the elderly and the needy, gave his words of wisdom and looked after them like his own. Just yesterday he was celebrating the news of the ceasefire with his peers, happier than i’ve ever seen him. He worked so hard to stay alive, despite the starvation, the displacement, the constant threat and looming of the army. That’s what makes this so much harder to write, because he was taken when his survival mattered and paid off the most. Saleh Al Jafarwi to me, will always be remembered as the voice of freedom, the voice of justice and reason. He was a voice not only for the Palestinians, but for the oppressed everywhere— showing us the importance of using our voices, of keeping faith when the world around us crumbles and most of all, the importance of showing up for ourselves and for everyone else no matter what’s going on in our lives. May Allah grant him mercy and peace, and may He raise Saleh’s ranks in paradise. May Allah grant sabr to his family, his friends, and all those grieving such a beautiful soul on this day. #SalehAljafarawi #Saleh #journalist #gaza
