@thehomesteadingrd: Want to grow some elderberries? Pruning them in the early spring will help promote healthy growth. Here's the steps that I follow: 1) Prune just as the buds are forming 2) Remove any dead portions 3) Remove any crossing/rubbing branches 4) Shorten any spindly growth to keep the branches strong once it sets fruit (I ran out of time to include this tip, sorry!) I'm lucky in that we have TONS of elderberries growing wild on our property, but you can plant them, too! It's best to grow them from cuttings and ideally, from someone local.
