🚨JUST RESCUED: MOM DUG A 2.5ft HOLE OUTSIDE INTO A BASMENT CRAWLSPACE AND HAD 10 BABIES 🚨 Last night, as we were headed home from the shelter, a desperate message came in about a stray Mama Dog. We rushed over immediately, and what we found was nothing short of astonishing. As soon as we arrived, we spotted Mama Brownie. But before we could approach, she darted under a deck and vanished. To our surprise, this incredibly smart and protective girl had dug a 2.5-foot-deep hole into a homeowner’s crawlspace, creating a hidden den to keep her 10 babies safe. The homeowners graciously allowed us into their basement, where we found access to the crawlspace—and the puppies. But Brownie wasn’t giving up easily. She wasn’t going to let anyone take her or her babies without a fight. Armed with hamburgers (her reported favorite food), we set a trap. She approached several times, expertly removing the burgers she could reach before retreating. We knew we needed another plan. After hours of waiting, we finally lured her back into the crawlspace with her puppies. Then, we blocked off her escape routes and squeezed into the tiny, 1.5-foot crawlspace. To make it even more challenging, Brownie had retreated to the farthest corner on the opposite side of the house from where the entrance point was. Covered in cobwebs, sludge, and, well…other unpleasant things, we shimmied across the crawlspace with a flashlight and a catchpole. By this point, Brownie was exhausted and had given up the fight. With great care and patience, we guided her out, inch by inch, ensuring her safety and comfort. After FIVE HOURS, we emerged—dirty, exhausted, but victorious—with Mama Brownie and her 10 babies safe and sound. now they need a safe space to rest and grow.
