About two-and-a-half weeks after she gave birth to her daughter, Simone Sebastian (@BlaxitMom) was driving home when she felt a sudden gush of blood in between her legs. "I started getting this intense cramping in my stomach, and it felt like I was giving birth all over again," she recalls. Just minutes earlier, she had been told by her hematologist, who she was seeing because of a suspected blood clot during delivery, that her heavy bleeding was normal. But something was wrong. Simone pulled into a parking lot and doubled over in pain. A stranger saw her struggling and called 911. At the hospital, for what felt like hours, no one stopped to check on her as she waited. Other patients were prioritized because, as she was told, they had “real emergencies.” To Simone, that was a major blow. Everyone was quick to respond when she was in labor with her baby. But now that she was postpartum, no one looked her way. When she was finally wheeled into an exam room and her medical team saw all the blood, they then started to pay attention. Simone's doctors determined that she had a retained placenta, which meant they needed to perform a D&C right away to remove it. Thankfully, Simone recovered, despite enduring such a terrifying experience. "Motherhood is supposed to be such an important role in society,” she says. “But from the moment we give birth, it feels like we are discounted and forgotten about.” Tap the link in bio to learn more about Simone's story. 💜 If you're experiencing any of the following symptoms, you should contact your provider right away: ⚠️ Soaking through more than one sanitary pad an hour ⚠️ Having bright red bleeding for more than a few days ⚠️ Passing very large blood clots (think: the size of a lime or bigger) ⚠️ Experiencing faintness, breathlessness, dizziness or a racing heart ⚠️ Experiencing nausea or vomiting ⚠️ Having swelling and pain around the vagina or perineum (the area in between the vagina and rectum) If you aren't able to reach your provider immediately and have any of these symptoms or you're having abnormally heavy bleeding in the first few days or weeks postpartum, call 911. #BumpDay #birthstory #MomsofTikTok #newmom #postpartumhemorrhage #postpartum
