All he had to do was add a stand-off wall, double plate and point load the rafters over the studs.

Most of the stress on a rafter is not at the connection but towards the middle, that would've stood for another 200 years

missing structural nail plate on the 3" plumbing pipe, that goes true the top plate, You shouldn't pass that on framing!!!
