@thehomesteadingrd: ⚠️Don’t make this same mistake!!! If you want to grow sunflowers, place them in their own isolated location! That’s because sunflowers secrete an allelopathic chemical to slow the growth of surrounding plants 🤯. They are also HUGE nutrient and water hogs, making the situation even worse. Beans and potatoes are particularly susceptible, but it seems like onions are, too! I also experienced small ears of corn 😩. I noticed the impact up to 5 feet from each sunflower plant. They can also potentially shade other plants out, but since I have them on the north end of my garden you can see that their shade impact is minimal. Ugh 😩. Posting this again from last year’s mistake so that hopefully you can avoid it, too! Share this this your gardening friends! #gardentips #gardening101 #gardeningforbeginners #growingsunflowers #growyourownfood #homesteading #gardeningtips

Angela L :
plant cucumbers with your sunflowers. They climb the sunflowers and are sweeter tasting! 😁

Also, sunflowers should be planted in patches as they are very too heavy. The heads will get so big that the wind will snap them in half if they

I no longer plant sun flowers in my garden. They take all the nutrients and the water from all of the plants.

Is it just me, or does it seem like beans are literally "friends" with everyone..? Maybe that's where the term "cool beans" came from LOL

Squash, peas and brassiicas do not seem to be affected whatsoever! In my garden, anyway.

Could it be that the sunflowers also are robbing them of water?

I wonder if planting sunflowers will inhibit the growth of the poison ivy in my back yard. Worth the google. 🤔😂
