@johndelony: We drive ourselves crazy trying to figure out why that person we love hurt us, or why that girl we went on a date with never called back or why that old friend betrayed our trust, or why, or why, or why…

And it is exhausting.

It’s not your job to decipher the decisions of others. And simply put, it’s nothing but a waste of your time and energy.

You can never truly know what’s going on inside someone else’s head.

But you can focus on what you do know. The facts.

And then you can focus on making the next right decision for you and your wellness.

(Some have pointed out that this is not the technical definition of Fundamental Attribution Error. Technically, FAE refers to judging other people’s actions by minimizing context (ie they were sick, they were exhausted, they recently lost their parents) and instead, blaming it on their personality (they’re just mean, lazy, trying to ruin everyone’s good time, etc.)

At the core, in my opinion, FAE is about trying to judge why someone did what they did. It’s about trying to get into their head and make judgments, and using our own stories to do so.

This oversimplification may not fully translate to some, but it works for me.)

Often we judge ourselves based on our intentions and others based on their actions.

Without context that is also the foundation of empathy. Understanding why someone may have acted a certain way.

The thing is if you spend too much time over analyzing you live in a constant state of anxiety. Yes you can question intentions but don’t ruminate.

Stunningly inarticulate way to explain Fundamental Attribution Error. Better off telling people to Google the concept.

This is not the fundamental attribution error lol. Instead, others do things because they're bad, when I do bad things because of my circumstances.
