@yptusa: Atletico Madrid u16: passing | receiving These are not Atletico Madrid academy players but these are Atletico Madrid trainers and the session takes place at Atletico’s training facility in Madrid. The players are from Fluminense, in Brazil, and includes #YPTplayer Thomas Yousef. This exercise focuses not only on passing and receiving but, more importantly, on movement off the ball (watch the players in the center of the triangle). The yellow pole in the center of the triangle signifies a defender. The exercise begins at the apex of the triangle. The player with the ball (A) drives and the pole (defender). As the player with the ball drives at the pole the player behind the pole (C) moves away from the pole. A passes wide to B. C checks to B and receives the ball then switches to the opposite corner (D). D receives and then passes back to the apex where the drill continues. PROGESSION: notice in the last half of the video the trainer has the players at position C (behind the pole) move in the direction AWAY from position B before checking to the ball to receive the pass. The idea here, in a match situation, is to take advantage, for only a few seconds, of the defender watching the ball so player C moves away from the ball to create some space for himself before receiving the ball.
