@itnarchive1955: On 12 June 2007, #bluesrock duo The White Stripes performed a #specialset for the #ChelseaPensioners at the #RoyalChelseaHospital in #London while promoting their new album, #IckyThump. Comprised of singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist Jack White and drummer and vocalist Meg White, the #WhiteStripes formed in 1997 and emerged in the early #2000s as a leading sound of the #garagerock revival. In those early years, the pair presented themselves to an unwitting public as #Siblings, though public records revealed that, in truth, the pair were not related but ex-partners. #JackWhite took #MegWhite's surname when they #married in 1996, and Meg insisted they keep the band going when they #divorced amicably in 2000 – before the White Stripes found international #fame. Jack White explained that the #deception was born out of a desire to prevent their past #Relationship distracting from their #music, a decision which might have backfired as, once the truth was revealed in 2001, the #lie became a fixation for the music press.
