Fort Myers, Florida – On Tuesday, February 6, 2024 — the FBI and the Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to calls of a bank robbery and hostage situation at a Fort Myers Bank of America. The suspect in the robbery, later identified as 36-year-old Sterling Alavache, was armed with a kn!fe and claimed to have a b0mb. While the department attempted to negotiate, Alavache put the kn!fe to the throat of one of two hostages, and a SWAT sniper fired a shot through a computer monitor, striking Alavache in the center of the forehead and k!lling him instantly. The bullet that traveled through the computer monitor was specifically chosen for the shot. It’s known for its reliability in going through moderately sized barriers. Alavache fell to the ground while the hostages ran away. After the suspect was shot, flash bangs were used as distraction devices as the Lee County Special Operations Unit moved in to remove the hostages and confirm that the suspect was no longer a threat. The team moved in under the cover of flashbangs to confirm the death and safely release the hostages. Lieutenant Nader was honored for his bravery on June 5th, 2024, with both the Deputy of the Quarter award and the Meritorious Service award. One of the hostages was there to thank him personally for saving them and executing the suspect. The lieutenant who killed the suspect is Paul Nadar who is an veteran that enlisted in the United States Navy, shortly after graduating high school in 1989, and served till 1993. Paul was a Sonar Operator and was trained to find and track submarines. He went on several South Atlantic missions, one North Atlantic Mission and one Mediterranean Mission that took them into the Red Sea. Paul served during the Gulf War and the USS Thorn was assigned to stop ships in the Red Sea and search them for any cargo that could be used by the enemies are part of the war effort. #florida #lieutenant #leecounty #hostagesituation #lawenforcement #agencies #tacticalunit #firstresponders #fbi #fortmyers #leecountysheriff #deputyofthequarter #paulnadar #lieutenantnader #hostagerescue #sniperteam #snipercoverage
