I made the same mistake pulled the balancer off @with out knowingRookie mistake when out bought the timing kit still was very nervous

Could you pin the crank with the head off. Then put the timing tools on the cams.

Is this the engine that you need to put that tool bolt on the side of the block by crnkthat when you rotate the crank it lock it up on top dead center
