One thing I had read too is to add some bay leaves in also..like 1 or 2 dried ones..have you heard that?

Rice is great to store. if done correctly it will last 30 years. However food may loose nutrients.

Not sure if their food safe but some moisture absorbers you can put in the microwave and then reuse them.
