i started crocheting my straps carrying clear fishing line through and it works unbelievably well (plus you can use bigger hook and sc)

I always attached a sc strap and weaved in three to four strings of the same yarn that I tightened up at each end. But this looks prettier up close.

You could also use the thermal stitch for the handles as it’s very strong and sturdy
